Ch 9| Your Soul Guide Is Not A Magic Genie

Manifesting what we want – realizing our wishes – is one of the most misconstrued topics when it comes to working with your guides. They are not to be treated as deities who might grant your wishes. Nor are they meant to be used for every decision you are deliberating. Guides will advise you, but they do not dictate to you.

They are not here to decide on your behalf, and they are not here to run your life. They are to empower you, to show you what to do in order to grow.

On the Other Side, you are given all the time you need to accomplish your lessons and experiences – there is no rush or sense of dreaded pressure. I also see many people who want to turn to guides for everything and they feel like they cannot make any decision in their life without asking guidance first (hoping to relieve the pressure of decision making and responsibility). This is a debilitating way to approach a life where you have the freedom to respond however you wish, and therefore your guides may even seemingly ‘retreat’ or go quiet if you are attempting to use them as a crutch, or excuse yourself from accountability in your lifetime. After all, it’s your karmic path, not theirs.

I caution against this as well, because often these people are not even truly connecting with their guides anymore, but with a spiritualized version of their ego instead. This is a form of spiritual bypassing, yet they are convinced they are talking to their guides and sometimes receiving very biased insight that doesn’t actually serve their highest potential. So it’s very important for you to know the difference – it starts with developing a keen awareness of your ego and it’s habits, something I work with in depth with clients in my one-on-one intensive program, The Freedom Sessions. It also helps to work with your guides regularly in order to understand how they come through to support you.

It’s important to note that guides generally empower you to make choices for yourself without dictating them. They don’t want to interfere with your choices or actions, because that would not be within the natural law of karmic unfolding – rather, it’s not their job nor their agenda to control you.

They are here to support you, not force you.

Much like a parent who constantly holds a child’s hands and does not allow them to walk for themselves, always picking them up when they fall: the child would not develop the muscles they need in order to not just walk, but to run freely. Guidance wants you to develop really strong, healthy muscles! Remember that – your guides are about helping you to thrive here on Earth, and help yourself. They are not dictators. They will let you fall down, and get up as much as you need to, cheering you on all the while there on the Other Side.

Also know that on the Other Side, you are given all the time you need for your soul, for the lessons and experiences that are needed. There is not the sense of limitation here that we experience because we are in a physical, finite body for one cycle of a lifetime. The soul knows that there are many opportunities. And your guides know this too – sometimes they give you a tremendous amount of space to make your way, very hands-off, and yet other times they may be a bit more pressing if truly called for, as if to say ‘Hey, we know you really wanted to get to this time around, let’s make it happen.” In my experience, this is more likely to occur as well, if there are other people’s karma involved, or hinging on an event or experience.

After all, we are all constantly co-creating our karma together – and sometimes, you are merely a pawn in another person’s lesson. Sometimes, your soul may have agreed to fulfill a specific role that may not be an integral part of their own karma, such as when they agree to play an active role in someone else’s karmic influence, but know this – how you respond affects your karma, and your soul’s ultimately, nonetheless.

There are times when they may intervene or attempt to encourage you toward the best path, or the necessary lesson. My experience is that this is much more rare than we realize, but it does happen. Guides will sometimes push through in dreams, or tip the hand of fate if you will, generating inspiration so that penny drops and you reach over to pick it up – bumping heads with the right person at the right time. If you wish to experience more support from your guides, then follow your hunches. Soul guides travel in winks from the Universe and moments of inspiration!

But what happens if you choose not to work with your guides?

They won’t disappear, but they may recede into the background. Overall, the more you work with them, the more they work with you. This is a relationship, not a one-way street. They provide as much support as you are willing to allow, in marriage with what they know you need, as long as it’s in balance. Consistent, respectful interaction is key when you’re developing a relationship with soul guides. As as I mentioned previously – they will not offer up consequences for agreements not followed through, as working with a deity may. When you are working with a deity as a guide, always be very cautious, and very respectful. Any effective, lasting transformation in our lives has to happen on a soul level, beyond the egoic one. To get there, we need to go deep into our own shadows, to realize the wholeness of who we are and transform our perspective from one of duality and judgement into one of piercing clarity and union, or non-duality, and our guides can help us to achieve that. This is because they have a vested interest – unlike anyone else in your life – to see you evolve and reach your highest potential in this lifetime and beyond.
