I get asked this one a lot: “You know every little thing I’m thinking about, don’t you?”
There’s a look on their face when they ask, as if they’re afraid I also know exactly just what kind of underwear they’re wearing.
And guess what? Nope, I DON’T!
This is the moment when I often tell people “Hey, I’m a psychic, I’m not God.” ;>
“What do you mean?”
First off, that’s not how being psychic works. Not exactly, anyway. So let’s set the record straight.
One of my past mentors once shared a great analogy — when we open up to do a psychic reading, it’s like we’re opening a book that is all about you.
We start looking at whatever information appears there on the page — sometimes it’s really clear but sometimes it’s like a foreign language — and then check to make sure we’re translating it right (“Does this make sense?”).
Every page builds on the last one, and we start to see patterns and pieces that come together. Sometimes it’s very fast, sometimes it’s a process.
This is where you come in, because getting a psychic reading really is an energetic relationship. If I clearly see something on that page, and you deny it – maybe you’re embarrassed, maybe you don’t want to look at it so you shut down – this throws me off onto a cold trail, and suddenly I’m left flipping pages with random information I’m now trying to re-assess. If you don’t want to talk about it, fine – then say that!
Otherwise, energetically it’s like you just threw a handful of needles into a haystack. I know there are needles, with all these threads of information I’m trying to pull together, and I know they are there, but now I have to dig even more. (And besides, it may go without saying but… we know when you’re lying to yourself!)
But more to the point, I usually can’t magically know the entirety of your book in an instant.
I get chapters, paragraphs, sentences. And then try to weave the threads together, to understand the greater tapestry of what I’m seeing (and yes, guidance may tell me exactly what is the main focus in no uncertain terms).
Let me be VERY clear, however — this does NOT mean that I’m looking for you to feed me info (no psychic worth her third eye would do that).
Let me ask you for the clarifications, please – ultimately, I’m reading the energy in a situation, which can tell us so much more than your ego’s fixations.
In fact, when I do a reading my ideal is to know absolutely NOTHING about you at all. That way, I’m a clean slate for whatever guidance is showing me.
And so yes, that means that a good relationship with your psychic calls for good boundaries.
I’m huge, huge, HUGE on Healthy Boundaries (so much so, I trained as a Healthy Boundaries for Kind People™ coach and facilitator in order to best help you create healthy boundaries for yourself!). I strongly feel that for those of us in my line of work, we need to have better boundaries than the average person, and I apply that standard starting with myself.
Because our psychic fingers are on the pulse of the Universe, yes, we are often privy to more than many can imagine.
But that doesn’t mean we have the right to infringe on your privacy, OR your free will. (!)
Are there times when someone’s thoughts or feelings enter into my head, unbidden?
YES.
But honestly, I don’t WANT to know all your deeply personal thoughts. That would be like getting endless earworms from someone! (I used to hate riding the public bus as a child for this reason.)
More importantly, it’s NONE OF MY BUSINESS (I have enough going on in my own life, thank you!).
So – as the go-to psychichealermagicmaker for many of my long-standing clients, I know it is vitally important that your psychic boundaries be respected.
And this goes for me as well, to keep my own body and energy healthy — I take down my psychic shingle, so to say, when I’m off the clock, AND I literally push away stray thoughts from other people that wander into my head when I’m out on the town.
(By the way, there are tricks any good psychic can use to do their best to keep your thoughts or feelings from wandering aimlessly into our sphere. Or your own head from being ‘read’ by us, for that matter, in case you’re wondering.)
All right, then — want me to see what happens when I ‘read YOUR mind’?
