My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep –
the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite. – Shakespeare
The Giver has a deeply philanthropic nature; the classic heart of gold. They think of others first, are always willing to help, and have a kind word for everyone. No matter how badly others behave, they forgive and affirm their friends and family. They’re often described as “not having a mean bone in their body.”
Shadow Side
The Giver without boundaries becomes enmeshed with others’ dramas and failures, and may become a martyr. Their bleeding hearts can be taken advantage of once too often, leading them to turn on people or manipulating others with emotional, passive-aggressive behavior. He or she can suppress their own needs and desires to the point of pain or even self-ruin, especially if they feel it’s to help someone else; this can cause them to become gullible with liars or charlatans. The Giver can become blind to their own role in their seemingly constant emotional messes.
Potential Challenge Chakras
Usually has a 4th chakra that is excessively open with no boundaries, which can be indicative of the 1st chakra being shut down or blocked from deep wounds either in this lifetime or karmic patterns. The Giver may have either stagnated lower chakras (manifesting as a more “spiritual” Giver), or blocked upper chakras (a more pragmatic “no-frills” Giver). They may also have an overactive 3rd chakra that seeks to gain power over others through conditional giving – their heart truly is not ‘in the right place’.
Tips: Learn to practice healthy boundaries, and understand the dynamics of co-dependent and enabling behaviors (see authors Melodie Beatty, Cyndi Dale). Even if your history doesn’t include relationships with alcoholics, there’s much wisdom in Al-Anon for you.
