All things must come to the soul from its roots, from where it is planted. – Saint Teresa of Avila
Spiritualists are loving and open; they are their own constants. Filled with a deep trust in the Universe/ God/ Great Spirit, they radiate passionate equanimity and joy, and inspire others to be their best. They may be religious or align more with a ‘spiritual path’, but honor all paths that people are called to. They’re often considered “soul-seekers,” and they embrace this perspective, always moving deeper. They may also take on the mantle of Mystic, though not all Spiritualists do.
Shadow Side
The Spiritualist can become dogmatic; blaming themselves or others for their woes. They may be unable to follow through, or lack pragmatism. When blinded by ‘hope’, they are unable to be in balance with the facts of life, and can become arrogant, or lack accountability. Not trusting in his or her own intuition or personal truth, they follow ‘gurus,’ or fall prey to charlatans and allow themselves to be led by others. Mired in existential blues, the Spiritualist becomes an ‘enlightenment junkie’, maintaining a shallow level of spiritual truth, feeling empty and lost, never committing to a path to reap the benefits.
Potential Challenge Chakras
The Spiritualist may be unable to ground in lower chakras, feeling blocked or stagnated. They can seek to ‘numb out’ the intense 6-7th chakra energy generated to keep from getting carried away with it – this can result in feeling powerfully lost, existential blues, etc. They may get stuck in a need for intellectualism, unable to accept what is not logical, and even try to make logical sense of spiritual truths or mysteries, living up in their heads and dominated by a ‘spiritualized’ ego.
Tips: It is imperative you become well-grounded and fully embodied; much like the Creative, heal the wounds in your 10th or 1st chakra to aide this. Practice consistent regular ego work that includes embracing it as a powerful ally and tool, not always trying to ‘kill’ or suppress it; foster creative expression to balance out the intellectual yearnings and be mindful of not spinning in your head all the time – look towards ways to take meaningful action in your life.
Self Care: Grounding practices of meditation that includes physical action such as martial arts, prostrations, hiking, etc., time in nature, yoga can be very helpful. Also, taking time out to be playful and letting your inner child out! Get your hands dirty and PLAY.
